Parents are potential human resources for schools. They know the ins and outs of their communities and their children very well. When young recruits arrive at the school, parents may be the best ones to orient them to the community-its history, places of interest, customs and traditions, and cherished values. This is especially important when the young recruits represent a diverse cultures different from the cultures of their students. Most of the modern parents are literates and possess varied knowledge, skills, and abilities from which teachers and students can benefit. Some could be invited to offer even professional training for teachers. If a parent is qualified and intellectual or a man of reputed standing in the Society, request him to share his knowledge with the academic fraternity of a school.

    As a parent you can do a lot to help the school in particular and the children in general.
    Take suitable time-out willingly, sit with your children without any intimidation and converse with them about their academic work, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at school.

    Probe into the minds of the children and elicit as much as you can about the school and the teachers, of course, without showing any antagonistic feelings.

    If you feel that something is bothering you persistently, don’t hesitate to ring-up someone at the school office.

    It is always wise to seek the counsel of the Class teacher or the Head teacher at the first sign of a problem.

    Take a prior appointment with sufficient notice on working days in case you wish to see your child’s teacher or mentor in person.

    Do not hesitate to tell teachers what and how you appreciate their patience, perseverance and concern, which they show on your child.

    Post a letter or two to the Principal or Assistant principal, praising teachers’ sincere and dedicated efforts.

    Be a vocal, but polite participant in Parent – teacher discussions: Pose questions, exchange views, and find out the best tips with which you can do something concrete to help the children when they are at home.

    Attend school functions such as Annual Sports Day, Annual cultural show, Investiture ceremony, Art exhibition, Fancy dress competition etc

    Volunteer may be as a Judge of some competition, a guest speaker on farewell day or an active participant on open days.

    Enhance your knowledge about teaching and teaching methods; learning and learner-centric education; and about school and the problems it faces.
